Teachers Retreat at the Barn by the Sea is located on the Tawharanui Peninsula where you will find Auckland City Council’s first open sanctuary. The sanctuary was established for the purpose protecting marine, forest and wetlands; protecting threatened species of birds and marine life, flora and fauna, and maintaining the ten walking tracks in the area, which means the area unique appeal is it’s wide open conservation spaces and limited residential properties.
The Tawharanui Regional Park features some of the most beautiful white sand beaches, rolling pastures, shingled bays, native coastal forest and regenerating wetlands in the greater Auckland region. According to a travel article that appeared it the New Zealand Herald, Tawharanui Peninsula is known as the Jewel of the North, and it is easy to see why.
